Medieval Christian Fiction Books

I was born in the wrong era.

I should have grown up in a drafty old castle, or at least a roomy manor house.
I should have worn long gowns and had my choice of horses to ride across the countryside.
Sword fights, castles, rustling silks, the whip of banners on the chill morning air should have been my daily fare.
But, no.
God saw fit to place me in America at the tail end of the 20th century.
Instead of trumpets blasting and the quiet tread of servant’s feet bringing my breakfast,
I hear sirens and jets overhead and horns from impatient drivers on the avenue.
Yet every time I open a book that tells the story of medieval times,
I can live there. I can breathe that air. I can see those sights.
Thus I came, at long last, to writing Christian medieval fiction –
weaving my own stories, researching the fascinating historical accounts,
getting lost in another world as I type furiously on my computer.
(Praise God for computers– I’d hate to write with a feather quill!)
               Are you a kindred spirit?
If so, you will find encouragement, joy and refreshment in my pages.
Come on in. The Castle gate it open.

The Keys to the Kingdom is a four-book series that begins with Sirocco Wind from the East. The second book is Mistral Wind from the North. These two books are published and can be purchased online at Amazon or any other online venue. Or they can be ordered directly from Virginia Ann Work. They are also available from Amazon’s Kindle ebooks. See How to Order page. The third book, Zephyr Wind from the West, will be coming out soon. The fourth book, Lavento Wind from the South will follow.

These historical fiction novels follow the same characters and are filled with action, suspense, mystery and romance. Set in the tumultuous days of the medieval time period, they are true to the culture and history of that time. Prince Arthur of Brittany, one of the main characters, truly lived and was the nephew of King Richard I. These stories are rich with details, keep you on the edge of your chair and teach important truths about the Christian life.

Sirocco, Wind from the East

”Keep strong, sire. Life is strange. Perhaps your biggest opportunity will arrive at the moment you are most cast down.” These words propel Prince Arthur, who takes the name of Adrian D’Arcy, upon a quest to regain the kingdom he lost. He is joined by Brother Louis, a Benedictine monk, who travels to Palestine to fulfill a vow, and by Judith Itzchaki, a beautiful Jewess who seeks to find her missing father. These three unlikely companions are cast together on a quest. Will they find their heart’s desire, or will they be destroyed in a world torn by injustice, hatred and unholy war? This book is a stunning sage that sweeps from the valleys of the Loire River in France to the high deserts of northern Israel. Find new understanding of God’s grace, joy for your journey and hope for your lost causes in these pages.

Mistral, Wind from the North

Cast adrift into a world torn by war, chaos and prejudice, Judith Itzchaki must make crucial decisions about her faith and life in the second book of the Keys to the Kingdom series. In this book, the saga continues with Adrian D’Arcy, Judith, Brother Louis and Leon Fitzgerald who are separated from each other in a violent, war-torn world. Adrian is captured and is taken back to France. Judith’s life is threatened when she tries to find her father in the maze of streets in the old city of Jerusalem and Brother Louis fights another kind of battle when he meets a beautiful Spanish maiden. Inextorably drawn to the conflict in Constantinople when the Fourth Crusade invests the city in warfare, they must find their way to each other and to faith in God. In the pages of this book, you will learn the meaning of love, faith and courage for your own journey. This is a story you don’t want to miss.
